When might a child benefit from counselling?

Children communicate distress through words, behaviour, the body, play and changes in daily life. A consultation can help make sense of what is happening without assuming a diagnosis.

Anxiety and insecurity

Separation fears, repeated reassurance seeking, sleep problems, avoidance, headaches or stomach aches.

Behaviour and emotions

Anger, agitation, impulsivity, opposition, intense reactions or difficulty accepting limits.

Loss and transitions

Parental separation, bereavement, migration, illness, school changes or another disruption.

A less defined concern

A parent may simply feel that their child has changed, is suffering or is no longer quite themselves.

The first parent consultation

The first meeting takes place with one or both parents. We discuss development, family history, the present context and what concerns you. We then decide whether the best option is individual child counselling, a parent-child consultation, parental guidance or another referral.

Why use play?

Play is one of childhood’s natural languages. Stories, drawings, figures and imaginative situations can help a child represent feelings and conflicts that remain confusing. Therapeutic play is held within an attentive relationship and is not simply entertainment.

Training and professional framework

Kevin trained in clinical psychology, child and adolescent psychology, early-childhood psychopathology and child counselling in France and Australia. He practises in Australia as an ACA-registered counsellor and holds a current National Police Check and Working With Children Check.
