Play therapy Sydney
Play, drawing and stories can help children express experiences that are difficult to explain in words, within a safe therapeutic relationship.
Children often show through play what they cannot yet describe directly. The therapist observes, listens and helps the child give form to feelings, conflicts and experiences without forcing an interpretation.
Separation fears, insecurity, sleep difficulties, avoidance and worries expressed through the body.
Agitation, anger, opposition, impulsivity or repeated conflicts at home and school.
Migration, separation, bereavement, school changes, illness or changes in family life.
Helping a child recognise, represent and gradually regulate difficult feelings.
Work begins with a consultation with one or both parents. Depending on the child’s needs, the next step may be individual play-based counselling, a parent-child consultation or parental guidance. Review meetings help connect the child’s therapeutic space with family life while respecting confidentiality.
Play is adapted to the child’s developmental age and interests. It may include figures, stories, drawing, construction or conversation. It is not a test and the child is not expected to perform or produce a particular result.
Not automatically. The first parent consultation helps determine whether individual play-based work, a parent-child format, parental guidance or another referral is most appropriate.
Yes. Consultations with children and parents can take place entirely in French or English.
The format depends on age and need. Parents may attend parent-child sessions and are involved through agreed review meetings.
