About me

Welcome,

My name is Kevin Hiridjee. I trained and worked in Paris as a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist before moving to Sydney. In Australia, I practise as an ACA-registered counsellor, offering consultations in French and English for adults, children, adolescents and couples in Paddington and online.

Before coming to Australia, I worked in private practice as well as in hospital and maternity settings, including at Cochin Hospital in Paris. These different experiences taught me that psychological difficulties cannot be reduced to a diagnosis or a technique. They need to be understood in the context of a person’s history, relationships and present circumstances.

My move from France to Sydney has also made me especially attentive to periods of transition: leaving familiar surroundings, finding one’s place in a new environment and creating continuity between different parts of one’s life.

My approach

I was initially trained in psychodynamic therapy. My work has since integrated contributions from object relations theorists—particularly in understanding children—as well as elements of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). My approach is therefore integrative: it is adapted to the person, their age, their needs and the difficulty that brings them to therapy.

I aim to offer a confidential and non-judgmental space in which you can speak at your own pace. I do not remain silent throughout the session: I may ask questions, offer observations or think through something with you when it seems helpful. I do not apply the same method to everyone; the work develops according to your needs and what becomes meaningful over time.

Literature and writing

Alongside my clinical work, literature and writing have always been important to me. I have published books on fatherhood, masculinity, parenthood, gender and the work of Winnicott, and I formerly directed the French psychology journal Le Carnet Psy. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Literature at the University of Sydney. Literature has strengthened my attention to ambiguity, silence and the many ways in which people try to tell their story.

A first conversation

I offer a free 15-minute telephone call before the first consultation. It is an opportunity to tell me briefly what brings you to counselling, ask any practical questions and see whether you feel comfortable arranging a first session.
